Louvre guided tours: what you are comparing
The word "tour" covers several different products. The museum runs its own introductory visit and sells an audio guide. Groups can book visits with a licensed guide. Other providers resell tickets, add a guide or build private routes. Each of these has its own price, language and meeting point, so compare them one by one.
This is an independent guide. Official tickets are sold by the museum. The prices below are the published 2026 figures for the museum's own offers, and they do not tell you what a private provider charges.

The tour types in detail
What each one involves and who it suits.
The museum's introductory tour
It lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and starts at the group reception. It gives you a first orientation, not a full visit. The reduced price of €9 applies only to those who qualify. Check the language of your slot before you book, because the offer is not listed in German.
Group visits
The museum separates small groups of up to 6 participants plus a guide from large groups of up to 20 plus a guide. A reservation fee applies first (€20 or €90), then €28 per paying participant. Groups without a qualified leader can be turned away. The museum names licensed guides and qualified educational leaders. A booking with another provider does not replace these requirements.
Tickets and prices →Audio guide
The audio guide costs €6 and comes in 9 languages, German included. You collect it at the desks under the pyramid after a prior reservation, and you leave an ID as a deposit. It suits you if you want your own pace and a free choice of rooms.
Masterpieces route on your own
The museum describes a trail past its best-known works and plans 90 minutes for it. That figure belongs to the trail, not to a whole visit. Our own selection of fifteen works is on the highlights page.
Louvre highlights →Resold tickets and private tours
These are products of other providers. They differ in language, group size, meeting point and what the price covers. The museum warns against mirror websites, street sellers and offers sold as "queue jumping", and it can refuse entry in such cases. That is no reason to avoid every provider. It is a reason to read the description.
What to check before you book
The wording differs more than the prices do.
Is admission included?
This is the most common source of confusion. A guide fee and a museum ticket are two items. Look for a clear line stating whether the ticket is part of the price, and for which entry category.
Language and group size
Look for the language of the guide, not only the language of the booking page. Ask how many people join, and whether headsets are used.
Meeting point and entrance
Guided groups use their own meeting points. Individual visitors normally enter through the pyramid. Know where you meet and how early you must be there.
Map and entrances →Time slot and reservation
A time slot is recommended for every visit, and it is mandatory in some periods. A tour time and a museum entry slot are not always the same thing. Check how the two fit together.
Opening hours →Cancellation terms
Terms differ by provider and cannot be carried over from one offer to another. The museum states that its own tickets are generally not exchangeable. Read the terms before you pay.
Room closures
Some galleries are closed for renovation, and the list changes. A tour route named after an artwork does not guarantee that the room is open on your day.

Louvre tours: frequently asked questions
Is a guided tour worth it?
That depends on how much you already know and how long you want to stay. A guide gives structure and context in a museum with several wings. If you prefer your own pace, the €6 audio guide or a plan of your own is the alternative.
How much does an official Louvre tour cost?
The museum's introductory tour costs €12 regular or €9 reduced in 2026, and the museum ticket comes on top. With the €22 admission that makes €34, and with the €32 admission €44.
Is there a Louvre tour in German?
The museum's introductory tour is listed in French, English, Spanish and Italian. German is offered for the audio guide. Other providers may offer German tours, so read the language line of each offer.
How long do Louvre tours last?
The museum's introductory tour takes 1 hour 30 minutes, and its masterpieces trail is planned at 90 minutes. Other providers set their own lengths. A tour covers only part of the museum.
Can I join a group tour with any guide?
No. Groups need a qualified leader, such as a licensed guide or a qualified educational leader, and the museum can turn away groups without one. A group booking is made with the museum in advance.
Do I need a ticket in addition to the tour?
For the museum's own introductory tour, yes, unless you are exempt from admission. For resold products the description should say whether the ticket is included. If it does not, ask before you pay.
